Equal Treatment Under the Law

From: Medium

 By Gretchen Garrity

At the September 24, 2024 Library Board of Trustees monthly meeting, a citizen spoke about the labeling of books in the library. Having done actual research, she presented to the board not only how our own library already uses stickers/labels on books, but the vendor used and what kinds of stickers/labels are attached to the books. Please watch her three-minute speech below (prompted to the start of her comments).

Note that she does not specifically reference LGBTQ+, but concentrates on age-inappropriate and sexually explicit material of WHATEVER KIND that the library provides to children.

It turns out the Christian County Library buys and uses a variety of stickers/labels to identify certain book genres. However, the CCL opted not to use stickers (like those below) to identify the LGBTQ+ genre:

Activists use lawfare to suggest that using stickers and labels to identify books with sexually-driven content is stigmatizing. They have used this argument successfully with activist courts, and as a consequence, a precedent has been set in many areas of the country.

The interesting thing about labels and stickers, is that when Pride events come around, or Pride displays in libraries are put up, stickers are a thing when the activists want them:

Not only stickers, but buttons, too. See HERE for another take on stickers, and HERE. But to actually identify the hundreds of sexually explicit and age-inappropriate books in the library in order to aid parents who may or may not want their children to read those books, is verboten.

Why?

BECAUSE THEY WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO BE EXPOSED TO THEM.

It's that simple. Every single group or individual who pushes for such books to be made accessible to children has the goal to EXPOSE kids to them in order to further the goals of the hard Left. It is not about free speech or the freedom to read. It is Marxism and communism and queerness and socialism.

This is a social and political agenda of childhood indoctrination, of the early sexualization of children, of normalizing sexual thinking and behavior of every kind from the youngest children to teenagers. The Holocaust Memorial Museum describes how the Nazis indoctrinated the youth in "Shaping the Future: Indoctrinating Youth."

While some activists may think they are furthering only a political goal of upending our republic and replacing it with their preferred political system, the ultimate end of sexualizing children is to give adults license to have their way with them. And most know it, and are okay with it. It isn't about unicorns and rainbows and learning to love your body. It's about demoralizing children and taking away parental rights.

So back to stickers. Why is it permissible for library staff to attach stickers and labels to Christian books and mystery books and romance books, but not okay to identify books with a sexual agenda? Why the special treatment? It looks like some animals are more equal than others. And when it suits, the agenda to indoctrinate our children is kept well hidden behind innocent-looking books with clever titles and cute illustrations. They are legion in the CCL.

And, the activists know that most parents would avoid those books for their children. That's the crux. The rights of parents to curate their children's reading material is taken from them and given to librarians. There is a Supreme Court case about the rights of parents to opt out of certain curriculum for their children. A decision should be forthcoming. It may have repercussions beyond the classroom.

Stickers and labels are used to help library patrons identify books they may be interested in--or not. By refusing to identify or properly curate age-inappropriate and sexually explicit books, the library is derelict in its duty to both children and parents.

  1. You really need to give up trying to violate the First Amendment rights of others. This is America, a country where even people like you are allowed to exist and write all the ridiculous drivel you want. I hope you seek counseling and medication for your mental health issues. You are delusional and could use some help.

  2. And you have nothing other than insults. Sad.
