The Battle Continues

Ray's Bookshop

By Gretchen Garrity

Lest we forget, there are hundreds of books in our library's children's sections that are age-inappropriate, pervasively vulgar, sexually explicit and of no redeeming value. The books noted below include themes of demonology, black magic, as well as sexual depravity. There is also a video review:

The reviewer, asks the question: Who is responsible for approving and placing these books in the library?

Is murder, rape, animal cruelty, sexual bondage and black magic the VALUES we desire to pass along to our children in Christian County? These books are placed in the teen section (ages 12-17) in the Ozark and Nixa branches. Again, if you have not seen the interview below with Sam Shoemate and Dan Kleinman, I urge you to watch it. It explains the political landscape in our libraries and why books such as the ones above are purposely placed in them.

That "Is" should be "Are", since you listed multiple things. However, are you aware that all of those acts you mentioned are also in the bible. I sure hope you are going to demand that text be removed as well. Or, does context matter.......

  3. The books noted...You asked if context matters. Let's see.

  4. Ok. I guess let me know after you've read them. Guess who you can thank for introducing Nixa to that genre? Your friend, Cindy. She's obsessed with the ACOTAR series and inspired a lot of new fans.

    1. Come on out and show your face you coward. Trust me when I tell you that if you have something to say about me, you should at least have the courage to let me know who you are. You won’t though because you have no basis for that accusation and you are just as cowardly as your weareconcerned author. So bring it

    2. I would suggest that our anonymous friend actually hates when these books are exposed. In order to pretend otherwise, we get comments that attack the one who exposes them.

  5. Hey anonymous feel free to come out from behind your keyboard and say stuff to my face. Your comment as usual has not one shred of evidence to your point. I seriously doubt the 3-4 of us who went after those books sparked a surge in their reader usage. I’m always ready for a good fight but I like to know who I am fighting. So feel free to stop being a coward and tell me who you are.

    1. Well, here is some evidence. And really, if you existed in the book world at all you'd know that Sarah is one of the hottest authors on the planet right now. All anyone has to do is look at the data in relation to the timeline of your moms for liberty backed attack. It really is that simple. While I, personally am not a SJM fan, she is currently laughing at you all the way to the bank. No, I will not be identifying myself to someone who uses threatening and violent rhetoric such as yourself. https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/publisher-news/article/93944-new-pen-america-report-documents-scarlet-letter-effect-of-book-bans.html

    2. Who cares that SJM is one of the "hottest" authors on the planet? Smut is smut. That it's popular speaks more to adults' lack of taste than anything else.

Also, to suggest that Cindy's comment used threatening and violent rhetoric is typical of the Left. She asked that you have the guts to accuse her to her face. You declined. Surprise, surprise.

I will read the article you shared. Undoubtedly, it is slanted, but one can always hope.

    3. If you go looking for slant, you'll find it. The DATA is what you need to look at. LOTS of people care about SJM, she has a huge and loyal fan base. People like Cindy who constantly speak out and read her excerpts are only furthering her popularity. ACOTAR isn't smut, but if you are looking for some, let me know. I'm an English teacher and can definitely point you in the right direction. We all know Cindy and what she is capable of. I'd tread carefully if I were you. There is nothing political about not wanting to be publicly dragged. surprise surprise. I'll tell you what, as soon as you stand up at a library board meeting and identify yourself as the wife of board member John Garrity and that you run numerous, hateful social media pages in which you ridicule and harass members of the public then I'll gladly come forward. :)

    4. The data on a book's popularity has nothing to do with its quality, it suitability for children, and so on. A "huge and loyal fan base" is meaningless in the context of providing smut for minors. Can we at least agree on that?

"There is nothing political about not wanting to be publicly dragged." The irony--as you publicly "drag" a local parent who advocates for keeping children safe from smut!

And I have publicly identified myself numerous times at board meetings and on this blog. That you find my voice hateful is instructive of your motives. What you really find problematic is the opposition you and your friends face as they seek to promote sexually explicit and age-inappropriate books to children. The political agenda is clear, and it aligns with the Marxist goals of the ALA.

And no, we will not shut up about the kind of books that our public library places in the children's section. Your argument lacks logic, reason, and a natural desire to protect innocent children.

  6. The only "argument" that I've ever made is that parents and or families should be the only ones deciding what their own children can read. You'd have a hard time proving that illogical, unreasonable or unwilling to protect innocent children.

    1. Yes, parents should be the ones deciding what their own children read. No individual or public institution should be able to give someone else's child access to sexually explicit or age-inappropriate books without their knowledge or permission. You put an undue burden on parents when you suggest they should have to hover over their toddler or teen while they are perusing the library shelves just so some other parent who wants their child to have free access to those books doesn't have to procure them. A bogus argument if ever there was one.

Sorry, those books are widely available in other venues and/or adult areas of the library, and a parent can access them FOR THEIR CHILD. What y'all don't want to admit, is that you are PUSHING these books on ALL children for a socio-political agenda. You KNOW that most children would not be accessing those books if they weren't being pushed, and you certainly know that most parents have no interest in having their children exposed to them.

Thus your dilemma. It's a very bad look, really.

  7. Dear anonymous, the comments you make are nothing short of hilarious. Let’s address the threat of violence and my so called history and what I’m capable of….first off it was not a threat. It was a request for you to stop being a coward and show your face, give your name. See you won’t because you know that what you are spewing is false. What history? Do I have a record for being violent? Ever been arrested? Nope. What is it I am capable of exactly? Have you are been a victim of my violence? Second, I have never read an excerpt of that book in public at any meeting. Show me the data that our challenges in little ole Nixa of that series of books somehow catapulted their popularity. You can’t. Third, you and your little minions still don’t seem to understand that some material is truly unsuitable for children and minors. You don’t seem to understand the harm it can do to them. Fourth, you show how ignorant you are when you demand that Gretchen identify herself as John’s wife. This is not and never has been a secret. So now that you know she has done that, when will you tell us your name? Oh I know the answer, you won’t. I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t want people to know who I was as if I was dumb as you are.

Hang in there anonymous. One day maybe you are your purple haired friends will win one of these fights sooner or later. I doubt it but it could happen.

    1. I'm not sure what fight you are referring to, however, I was glad to see that no one else supports prayer in a public meeting.

  8. One more thing, anonymous, I would seek help if I were you because you seem to have an unhealthy obsession with me. You kind of creep me out a little.

  9. If you look back at my original point, which was that constantly speaking out against these authors has only grown their readership, you cannot argue. Logically it would be directed at cindy since there is plenty of video evidence of her speaking about the ACOTAR series.

The "quality, suitability for children and so on" are all determined by the individual therefore there is not one, common standard that could be measured by data.

    1. See Cindy's comment above. It answers your assertion.

  10. Hey “anonymous” supporter of filthy books for kids, we all know who you are. You need to chill with your obsession over people who have a different viewpoint than your own. It’s not healthy or normal.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Plenty of video evidence? There is one video because that is how many times I challenged I believe 3 of the books in that series while others challenged just as many if not more. Again though it was once. Let’s try this again though, show me how our challenges skyrocketed their popularity. Show me. You can’t so you just keep running your mouth with no evidence to back it up. Why aren’t you naming anyone else who challenged that series?

Put your money where your big mouth is and show yourself like you said you would because everyone knows who Gretchen is in relation to John. Oh again I know you won’t. Coward. Keyboard warrior. See I’m not afraid of you or your false assertions of which you have made plenty.

Counseling. You need serious counseling. You have an unhealthy obsession with me. I should be flattered but I’m not.

    1. Did you read the article? It takes a little bit of brain power to connect the dots but, look at the timeline of book bans and match it to the requests for consideration you have submitted and the times you've spoken at various public meetings. Hopefully that helps.

I wouldn't say obsession, but yes, CQD, you are well known to us teachers.

    2. If you are indeed a teacher, you should understand the actual definition of a 'book ban.' No books have been banned. The books you would term 'banned' are widely available in other venues and online. It is unfortunate that so-called professionals are willing to lie to further a political agenda.

  12. If you are indeed a "journalist", you should definitely understand the definition of words like: groomer, p3d0file, sexuality and so forth but, alas, you continue to use them wrong all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Show me where they have been incorrectly used.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Do you think for one second that I care if the teachers know me well based on this in the way you say that! I’m glad you know my name and my face. I won’t stop my mission to protect the very children you are also supposed to protect. FYI I am not going anywhere so you might as well get used to it. You though, still don’t know who you are. Coward!!

Show me the data you are referring to. I can promise you there is no data to back your claim that I alone bolstered popularity. I did not speak on these books many times. I did a few challenges as did others. I did not speak on these books several times nor make challenges multiple times. Your assertion is false.

Again, your obsession with just me is terrifying but I am glad I live rent free in your head. All you teachers should be on notice when it comes to the crap you are trying to shove down these kids throats. Teach your English class and stop trying to indoctrinate these kids.

  15. Anonymous, I can’t speak for Gretchen but for me we are done with this conversation unless you will make good on your word to identify yourself because Gretchen has already done the things you asked of her. I am also done because you cannot out forth any evidence to back your claims be it to me or Gretchen. You have no facts just your hurt feelings.

Again, I am elated that you and other teachers know who I am. Not sure you are actually a teacher, maybe a substitute at best but anyone can do that. Nixa must be desperate if they hired you.
